SBDC Lomita, CA
When you start touring event venues, you'll encounter a range of names: grand ballroom, banquet hall, club room, event space. These terms are often used loosely — but they do signal something about the size, layout, and use case of each space. Here's how to think about it.
A grand ballroom is typically the largest space in a venue — designed for high-capacity events with a formal or semi-formal tone. Think quinceañeras, wedding receptions, and large anniversary celebrations. Key features usually include stage lighting, a built-in sound system, and room for a dance floor alongside seated guests.
At SBDC, our Grand Ballroom (Hall A) is 4,500 sq ft and accommodates up to 300 guests. It's our flagship event space.
A banquet ballroom typically prioritizes seating capacity and layout flexibility over stage presentation. These spaces work well for large dinners, corporate events, community gatherings, and cultural celebrations where the focus is on the meal and the people — not the performance.
Our Banquet Ballroom (Hall E) is our largest space at 5,000 sq ft, with a flexible layout that adapts to your event format.

Vaulted ceilings, unique architectural details, and flexible setup make these spaces ideal for birthday parties, rehearsal dinners, baby showers, and smaller corporate events.
Our Club Room (Hall F) features vaulted ceilings and a distinctive character that the larger ballrooms don't have — ideal for events where atmosphere matters as much as capacity.
Match the space to your event format, not just your guest count:
"The best event space isn't the biggest one — it's the one that fits your event like it was designed for it."
